Colombia will organize its sixth Artistic Skating World Championship in the history of this sport, being on this occasion, Ibagué, Tolima, the official host of the 67th orbital edition for the senior category and the 28th for the juniors.

The first world event in Colombia was in 1980. The El Campín covered coliseum hosted the first World Cup to be held in South America between September 11 and 14, after those organized in previous years in the American continent by the United States and Canada. On that occasion, five competitions were awarded with medals: combined, figures, free, couple and couple dance. The most important figures of this World Championship were the Germans Michael Butzke, Petra Emert, and the Achenbach and Careis couple, and the Americans Kelly Mahon, Anna Conklin, Paul Price and Tina Kneisley.

In 1986, from November 25 to 30, for second time the capital of the Republic of Colombia hosted The Artistic Skating World Championship. The El Campín covered coliseum once again received the best in the world, among which the Italians stood out, who had begun their hegemony in this sport two years ago with athletes such as Michel Biserni, Michel Tolomini, Chiara Sartori and the rising stars Rafaella del Vinaccio and Sandro Guerra, who would win their first World Cup medals in this event.

Girón, Santander, organized, from November 23 to December 3, 1995, the 40th edition of the senior category and the 1st world artistic skating championship in the junior category. One of the highlights of this event was the performance of Australian skaters Jayson Sutcliffe and Tammy Bryant who for the first time in history won gold medals in figure skating for their country.

In 1998, Bogotá would once again be the host for a World Championship of Artistic skating, the third in this city and the fourth in Colombia. On this occasion, the covered coliseum El Salitre would be dressed with the flags of the whole world between November 3 and 15. A competition with special interest for Colombia as it is the second time that his skater Edwin Guevara, in the senior free modality, won his second gold medal. For Argentina it was also an important World Championship when they obtained their first gold medal with their athlete María Giannatassio in senior mandatory figures.

The Alcides Nieto Patiño Velodrome in Cali was the venue for the 2015 Artistic Skating World Championship In Colombia held between September 14 and 27. In this event, a tenth challenge would enter the competition, that of quartets, which joined the precision, large show team, small show team, inline, compulsory figures, free, solo dance, couple and couple dance. Athletes of nine countries climbed the World Championship podium: Italy (8 golds – 10 silvers – 5 bronzes), Argentina (3 golds – 3 silvers – 1 bronze), Spain (1 gold – 3 bronzes), Portugal (1 gold – 1 bronze) , Chinese Taipei (1 gold), Germany (1 silver), Brazil (2 bronze), Colombia (1 bronze) and the United States (1 bronze).
